Organizations Involved In Horse Care

Unlike humans that are capable of higher level of intellectual functioning such as mending and taking care of self, speaking, reasoning and representing self, animals such as horses are not. Though animals have their own world where they are able to perform tasks just like humans, keeping them into the world where man rules make animals inferior and sometimes are victimized by human's cruelty. For such reasons, animal rights advocates and frontrunners fight for their existence and fair treatment by establishing organizations and fighting for animal rights.

One of the most active organizations fighting for and promoting animal welfare is PETA or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals founded by animal rights activist Alex Pacheco in March 1980, due to widely publicized dispute about experiments conducted on 17 macaque monkeys inside the Institute of Behavioral Research in Silver Spring, Maryland. Because of such animal barbarism, it triggered the amendments of the Animal Welfare Act and established the appointment of PETA as an internationally existing organization with representatives from all over the world. PETA is also active in issues with regards to factory farming, fur farming, animal testing and barbaric form of animal entertainments such as dog, horse, bull and cockfighting. Some members even refrain from consuming any kind of animal meat, opting to be vegan in support of the organization's advocacies.

In Kentucky, USA, where horses abound, Horse Aid Live and Equine Health and Welfare Alliance have partnered to increase the impact in dealing with unwanted, homeless and at-risk horses. Although the two organizations function as two separate entities, both organizations fight for fair treatment, provisions for fundamental care and shelter for horses as both believe that forming a cohesive partnership will make way for a better and stronger working environment and bigger resources aimed at giving horses a better place to live and greater chances of surviving the harsh environmental situation and conditions that they are into.

Thoroughbred horses are drawn to us because of their great speed and strength that made them surpass and outsmart even the greatest human athlete but strong as they are, like human athletes they too reach the end of their career and retire. For such reasons, the Thoroughbred Adoption and Retirement Association or TARA was basically organized to assist and accredit organizations that find homes for horses after retiring from racing and other related events. As horses that become unfit for racing due to age and deteriorating health need more attention and providing for it is a luxury for horse owners, TARA sees to it that retired horses are provided with homes where they are intended only for riding pleasures that require minimal strength just enough for their physical ability after recuperating from debilitating diseases.

Retired horses and any horse for that matter require to be treated fairly even if they are not gifted with the ability to speak-up, complain and raise their voices like humans do.
